Brigita‘s story: traveling opens your eyes.

Meet Brigita, after long-distance relationship she took an opportunity, left her job and flew to her love. Living in Ireland opened her eyes and inspired to see the world!  This is her story.

Tell us your story! What your life looked like before? Why did you decide to change it?

I never dreamed about traveling when I was younger. I never thought about living abroad because I liked my home in Vilnius. But one day, my boyfriend (at the time, now we are married!) was offered a job in Ireland and he left. After doing long-distance for a few months I have decided that I will come to him! It was hard being apart so I took an opportunity and left my job and flew to my love. Living in Ireland opened my eyes and inspired me to see the world. I am not a full-time traveler, but whenever I get the chance, I like to visit new towns, see new places and meet new people. Now I am back in Vilnius and I want to see my beautiful country because there are so many beautiful spots that I never have been to!

The biggest lessons you learned on the trip. What did you understand about yourself?

Traveling opens your eyes – you have the opportunity to meet new people and their traditions, you get to experience new things and you can see such an amazing view from different corners of the world. I think all of this helps you to grow as a person and it widens your mind. I understood that I would rather spend more money on traveling than on some material stuff.

If someone is secretly dreaming about the lifestyle you are living now, what would you advise them?

If you want it – you have to do it and you should not care what other people think. This is your life and you have to live it, not them. So you should do whatever is best for you.

Living the way you live – what was the hardest thing in this whole experience?

When I was living in Ireland, the hardest was being away from family and friends. Now I am back in Lithuania, I am doing the regular 9to5 and it is hard to make time for traveling. But I am using my weekends for seeing new places. Small advice if you are also doing the 9to5 job – use bank holidays for short trips. 3 days is all you need to visit a new town and refresh yourself!

What advice would you give to a person planning to travel the  world?

Don’t give in to fear. Sometimes the scariest decisions might lead to amazing opportunities and experiences! If you want it – you have to act on it. Nobody else will do it for you. So you have to learn to stand up for yourself and do something about those dreams you have.

Is there any adventure you are planning?

Not at this point in time. During the pandemic, several bigger wishes came true – we moved into our own home and our family was joined by a puppy. So at the moment, I’m trying to get used to the changes, but I don’t stop thinking about travel and I look forward to the summer season, which will be perfect for weekend getaways.
